๐ Web Dev Tools
- Part 1: Project Scope & E-Commerce Complexity โ You are here
- Part 2: Hosting, Maintenance, Integrations & Design Scope
Web Dev Tools is a six-tab suite for scoping web projects โ from a simple landing page to a full e-commerce build with integrations and a maintenance retainer. This article covers the first two tabs. For hosting, maintenance, integrations, and design scope, see Part 2.
Accessing Web Dev Tools #
Web Dev Tools opens via the globe toolbar button on a Freelance / Creative job estimate. The six tabs run across the bottom: Project Scope, E-Commerce, Hosting & Infra, Maintenance, Integrations, and Design Scope. Results insert as line items into your estimate when you tap Apply.
Tab 1 โ Project Scope #
Builds the core project scope from a page-by-page inventory. In Project, select the project type โ Landing Page, Brochure Site, WordPress / CMS, SaaS, Custom App, or Design Only โ and the pricing model: Fixed Project, Hourly / T&M, or Retainer. Enter your hourly rate.
In Page Inventory, build your page list. Each row takes a page type, count, optional custom name, and complexity level. Page types: Home, About, Services, Contact, Blog (List), Blog (Single Post), Portfolio / Gallery, Team, FAQ, Pricing, Landing Page, or Custom. Complexity is Simple, Standard, or Complex. Hours per page calculate automatically. The section header shows a live total โ page count and estimated hours โ as you build. Tap + Add Page Type to add more rows.
Additional Phases has three toggles for common add-on work, each with an hours field: Discovery & Planning, Content Migration, and QA & Testing. In Revisions, set the number of included revision rounds and toggle on Charge for Revisions if additional rounds are billable โ enter hours per round. The Summary section shows total hours and project price. Tap Apply to Job.
Tab 2 โ E-Commerce #
Scopes the complexity of an e-commerce build. In Platform, pick the platform โ Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce, or Custom โ and enter your hourly rate.
In Catalog Complexity, set four attributes that drive complexity multipliers: product count tier (1โ10, 11โ50, 51โ200, or 200+), variant complexity (Simple โ no variants, Moderate โ color / size, or Complex โ multi-level), number of payment gateways (stepper), and shipping complexity (Flat Rate, Multiple Zones, Real-Time Carrier, or Custom Rules).
In Features, toggle on any advanced features the build requires. Nine toggles are available: Customer Accounts & Order History, Wishlist / Saved Items, Reviews & Ratings, Loyalty / Rewards Program, Subscription / Recurring Billing, B2B / Wholesale Pricing Tiers, Multi-Currency, Inventory Sync with POS, and Custom Checkout Flow. Each adds hours to the scope. The Summary shows the total build estimate. Tap Apply to Job.
