Map Measurement Tool: Measure Property from Satellite

2 min read

Who this is for: Managers  |  Plan: Premium

๐Ÿ“ What this does

The Map Measurement Tool opens a satellite view of the job address and lets you tap points directly on the property to measure area, linear footage, or multi-run lengths. The measurement drops straight into the calculator field you came from โ€” no math, no guessing, no tape measure required.

Where to find it #

The Map Measurement Tool appears as an orange map icon next to the relevant input field inside any supporting calculator. Tap it to open the tool. It’s available in:

โ„น๏ธ Premium feature: The map icon only appears if your plan includes the Map Measurement Tool. If you don’t see the icon next to the field, this feature isn’t included in your current plan.

How it opens #

When you tap the map icon, the tool opens to a satellite view of the job address โ€” it searches the address automatically so you land on the right property. If the map doesn’t land in the right place, use the search bar at the top to find the address manually.

The first time you open the tool, a How to Measure tip sheet appears explaining how to place points. Tap Got It to dismiss it, or tap Don’t show again to skip it on future opens.

Choose a measurement mode #

Select the unit that matches what you’re measuring. The mode picker is at the top of the map view:

  • Sq Ft โ€” tap three or more points to outline an area. The tool calculates the polygon area in square feet. Use this for driveways, roofs, building footprints, and lawn areas
  • Linear Ft โ€” tap two points to measure a straight-line distance in linear feet. Use this for fence runs, sidewalk lengths, curb sections, or driveway edges
  • Multi-Segment โ€” place multiple connected runs in sequence, each as a separate segment. Use this for properties with irregular perimeters or L-shaped fence lines where a single straight line won’t capture the full length. Results show in linear feet with a segment table

Place your points #

Tap the satellite map to place measurement points. The status bar below the map shows guidance as you go:

  • “Tap the map to place points” โ€” ready to start
  • “Start placed โ€” tap the next corner or endpoint.” โ€” first point is down
  • “{N} points placed โ€” keep tapping to add corners, or finish when ready.” โ€” area is taking shape
  • “Tap second point to complete run.” โ€” linear or multi-segment, first point placed
  • “Tap map to add another run, or tap Done.” โ€” multi-segment, first run complete

Use Undo in the toolbar to remove the last point placed. For multi-segment mode, tap Add Segment to commit the current run and start a new one. For area mode, tap Finish Shape to close the polygon.

In multi-segment mode, a segment table appears below the map showing each segment’s individual length and a running total.

Use the measurement #

When the shape is complete, tap Use This Measurement โ€” or Done in multi-segment mode โ€” to send the result back to the calculator. The measured value drops directly into the input field you opened the tool from. The calculator recalculates immediately.

If the measurement doesn’t look right, go back into the calculator, tap the map icon again, and re-measure. Each open starts fresh.
