Send a Push Message to a Field Worker

1 min read

Who this is for: Managers  |  Dependency: Field Mode set up; field worker must have opened the app at least once

πŸ“¨ One-way messaging

Push messages go from you to the field worker β€” they cannot reply from the app. For two-way communication, use text or a call. Use push messages for quick alerts: address updates, scope changes, “head to the next stop,” or any time you need to reach them without waiting for them to check their phone.

Find the envelope button #

Open Crew Mode from the home screen and tap the Crew tab. Scroll to your active field mode crew rows. On the right side of each active field user’s row, you’ll see an orange envelope icon. Tap it to open the message compose sheet.

ℹ️ Note: The envelope button only appears on active field mode rows β€” not on revoked users or web portal crew.

Compose and send #

The Send Message sheet opens. The recipient row at the top confirms who you’re sending to β€” the field user’s label shows under “To.”

Type your message in the Message field. The placeholder reads “Type your message here…” Messages are limited to 140 characters β€” the counter “N/140” tracks your count in real time and turns red when you reach the limit. The field won’t accept characters beyond 140.

Tap Send (the orange button with a paper plane icon). The button is disabled when the message is empty. While sending, a progress indicator replaces the button label.

Delivery confirmation #

If the message is delivered successfully, a green “Message sent βœ“” confirmation appears below the message field. The sheet closes automatically after 1.5 seconds.

If delivery fails, a red message appears: “Could not deliver message. Try again.” Check your internet connection and tap Send again.

What the field worker sees #

The message arrives as a standard iOS push notification on the field worker’s device. If they have the app open in Field Mode, the notification appears at the top of the screen. If the app is in the background or the device is locked, it arrives in the notification center. They cannot reply from the app β€” push messages are one-way.

If the envelope button isn’t showing #

The field worker must have opened PriceRight Pro in Field Mode at least once for their device to register with the push notification system. If they’ve never opened the app with their access code, their row won’t have a notification token yet and the envelope button won’t appear. Ask them to open the app in Field Mode and the button will appear on their row at your next refresh.
