Build an Estimate: Graphic Design Projects

๐Ÿ’ผ What makes this vertical different

Graphic design estimates separate five distinct cost categories โ€” creative work, revisions, print, licensing, and file delivery โ€” each with its own pricing logic. A web design project might have creative work and file prep but no print production. A brand identity package might have all five. Each section is independent so the estimate reflects the actual scope of that project.

Creative Work #

The Creative Work section is the core of the estimate โ€” the design phases and deliverables. Each row has a Phase / Deliverable name, an hours field, and a rate. The SmartScope calculator โ€” tap GD Tools โ€” sizes phases by project type and complexity and inserts them as rows. Add rows manually for custom phases.

Revision Rounds #

The Revision Rounds section prices your revision budget explicitly. Each row shows hours per round. Setting revisions as a named line item โ€” not buried in the creative work hours โ€” gives the client clear expectations and protects you from unlimited change requests.

Print Production #

The Print Production section covers print-specific costs โ€” press-ready file preparation, print coordination, or print vendor management. Add rows for each print production task. Leave this section empty for digital-only projects.

Usage & Licensing #

The Usage & Licensing section handles rights โ€” web exclusivity, print rights, territory restrictions, or time-limited licenses. Add a row for each licensing component. If the project transfers full ownership, add a buyout row here. If no licensing applies, leave this section empty.

File Prep & Delivery #

The File Prep & Delivery section covers the time it takes to package, organize, and deliver final files. Each row is a File Prep task with hours and a rate. Use this section for multi-format exports, file naming and organization, asset library handoffs, or brand guide production.

Pricing Controls and summary #

The Pricing Controls section and Estimate Summary follow the same structure as the standard estimate builder โ€” markup, discount, rounding, sales tax, commission, and payment schedule. See Add Costs, Allocation, and Markup to Your Estimate for a full walkthrough.
